Frequently Asked Questions
- How is net salary calculated in Germany?
- From your gross salary, income tax (based on tax class and income), solidarity surcharge, church tax (if applicable), and social security contributions (health, nursing care, pension, and unemployment insurance) are deducted. The result is your net salary.
- What are the tax classes in Germany?
- Germany has six tax classes: I (single), II (single parent), III (married, higher income), IV (married, equal income), V (married, lower income), VI (second job). Your tax class determines how much income tax is withheld each month.
- What are the social security rates in Germany for 2026?
- Contributions are split between employer and employee: health insurance approx. 14.6% + supplementary contribution, nursing care insurance approx. 3.4%, pension insurance 18.6%, unemployment insurance 2.6%. Salarii calculates only the employee's share.
- What is the solidarity surcharge (Solidaritätszuschlag)?
- The solidarity surcharge (Soli) is 5.5% of income tax. Since 2021, most employees are exempt due to a tax-free threshold. It only applies to higher earners, with a sliding scale (Milderungszone) at the transition.
- Is my data stored when I calculate?
- No. Your salary data is sent to the server for calculation and immediately discarded. There are no user accounts, no tracking, and no storage.
